ACLM Supplement and Toolkit: Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality in Lifestyle Medicine

In 2025, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) hosted the Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality in Lifestyle Medicine Summit, supported by Ardmore Institute of Health (AIH). The gathering brought together experts, clinicians, and researchers, including AIH trustees and staff, to explore intersections between lifestyle medicine and meaning, purpose, and spirituality.

As a result, the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality in Lifestyle Medicine Supplement and the Incorporating Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality into Clinical Practices and Treatment Plans Toolkit were created.

The supplement features the following:

  1. Editorial: Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality: The 800-Pound Bear for Behavior Change in Lifestyle Medicine and, Indeed, for American Health Care

  2. Editorial: The Foundation of Lifestyle Medicine: Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality

  3. Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality in Lifestyle Medicine and Healthcare: A Review of Current Research

  4. Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality in the Clinical Practice of Lifestyle Medicine

  5. Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality and Clinician Well-Being

  6. Integrating Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality (MPS) Within Lifestyle Medicine Education and Training: Core Competencies to Support Whole-Person Care
